The Kelvin (K) is the base unit of temperature in the International System of Units (SI). Unlike Celsius and Fahrenheit, Kelvin is an absolute temperature scale — it starts at absolute zero, the lowest theoretically possible temperature, where all molecular motion stops. Because of this, Kelvin is widely used in science, physics, and chemistry.
Celsius to Kelvin:
Add 273.15 to the Celsius value. The degree size is identical in both scales — only the zero point differs.
K = °C + 273.15
Example: 100°C = 100 + 273.15 = 373.15 K
Example: 100°C = 100 + 273.15 = 373.15 K
Kelvin to Celsius:
Subtract 273.15 from the Kelvin value.
°C = K − 273.15
Example: 0 K = 0 − 273.15 = −273.15°C
Example: 0 K = 0 − 273.15 = −273.15°C
